Martinsburg Jazz Orchestra
The Martinsburg Jazz Orchestra is a 16-piece big band ensemble which has been performing at a variety of venues in the Shenandoah Valley region for more than 21 years.
Since its debut performance at the 1990 re-dedication of the Martinsburg WV Apollo Theatre, this group has delighted audiences of all ages with its ever-expanding library of authentic swing music and contemporary big band jazz. The ensemble does not limit its repertoire to the standard swing charts of the ’40s and ’50s, but strives to incorporate updated, more challenging arrangements to remain several notches above the pack. Equally at home on the concert stage, ballroom and at private functions, the band features some of the area’s finest musicians.
It’s ’96 European tour was highlighted by a performance for an international audience at our embassy in Vienna. This high-energy ensemble continues to earn standing ovations as the featured big band at the Bluemont Concert Series.
The Martinsburg Jazz Orchestra has continued to support community outreach programs in the region – performing at fundraisers to benefit local secondary schools. Several band members provide pro bono after-school master classes. This group typically invites promising high school students to sit in at rehearsals and provides them a unique opportunity to participate in live concerts at the professional level.
